Before there were desks, there were roads. The human body was designed by long evolution to think on its feet, and some of civilization's best ideas arrived at walking speed: Aristotle lectured while strolling, Dickens walked thirty miles into the night whenever a chapter resisted him.

在书桌出现之前，先有道路。人类的身体经漫长演化而成，本就适合边走边思考；文明中一些最好的念头，都是以步行的速度抵达的：亚里士多德边漫步边讲学，狄更斯在章节写不下去时，会步行三十英里走进夜色。

Walking is thinking in slow motion. The rhythm of steps seems to loosen the rhythm of thought, letting ideas drift up from wherever they hide. Scientists studying this have found that creative output rises measurably during a walk — not because of the scenery, but because of the pace itself.

行走是慢速的思考。脚步的节奏仿佛松开了思绪的节拍，让想法从藏匿之处慢慢浮上来。研究此现象的科学家发现，散步时人的创造性产出会明显上升——不是因为风景，而是因为这种速度本身。

There is also the matter of scale. In a car, the world becomes scenery; on foot, it becomes a place. You notice the shop that changed hands, the tree that lost a branch, the neighbor's new dog. Walking restores the world to human size, and us to membership in it.

还有尺度的问题。在汽车里，世界沦为布景；步行时，世界重新成为地方。你会注意到换了店主的小店、断了一根枝的树、邻家新来的狗。行走把世界还原为人的尺度，也把我们还原为其中的成员。

You do not need mountains or pilgrim routes. Twenty minutes without a phone is enough to feel the machinery of the mind change gear. The problems that were opaque at the desk often become transparent by the second corner. So when a day jams shut, do not push harder — stand up, and take the oldest technology of thought for a walk.

你不需要高山，也不需要朝圣之路。不带手机走上二十分钟，就足以感到心智的齿轮换挡。在书桌前混沌难解的问题，常常走到第二个街角就变得透明。所以当一天卡死时，别硬推——站起来，带上最古老的思考技术，出去走一走。
